Let me present you the food collage of 2014, a summary of our travel and dining experience in the great year of 2014.
It's been a "tradition" of sort to include a post at the end of each year looking back at the wonderful food we were blessed with during the year and to remember some of the more remarkable meals. (you can check back on the previous posts for 2013, 2012 and 2011)
Every now and then there were meals that were more than decent but I didn't manage to blog - probably because I was tied up or didn't leave good note to write, and this year, on top of mind were the South African wine dinner at Above and Beyond with its innovative take on fine Chinese cuisine, an encore to the Central private kitchen (a month after we did the first), and the intimate, outdoor dining experience at Dulang at St Regis Bali serving "authentic" Balinese cuisine.
In terms of traveling, we managed to visit 2 new places for the first time - Bali in May, and Piedmont in October/November. Both were different, and good in their own rights. I have a feeling that we will return to Piedmont soon after such great experience with the scenery, the wine and of course, the truffles and the food of this beautiful land.
I hate to do the "Best Meal in 2014" thing because there's no way to rank each and every meal with too many variances. But if I must do it, these will be my top 5 finalists (in no particular order): Rozan (January), Sushi Yoshitake (March), Osteria dell'Arco (October) and the 2 meals at Caprice (September and December). And the best in a new restaurant? Hands down Neighborhood and I expect even better thing to come in this cozy eatery in the heart of Soho serving homey but perfectly executed dishes.
So here we are, and as we say adieu to the year 2014, let me wish you a happy new year and another year of enjoyment in 2015, no matter what you are passionate about!!!
