Brunch at Night

It did feel like there’s a common theme going on with another all-you-can-eat meal at Conrad Hong Kong after our “unlimited” Sunday brunch at Henry only a few days ago. The weekend buffet at Brasserie on the Eighth has always been well-known for its luxurious offering and huge spread of food and drink across both the brasserie and the Nicholini’s next door, and in the month of March, they brought this to night-time for one evening only with its “brunch at night” special menu and asked me to join the fun.

The menu did look like having the best of both worlds – I am glad I came with an empty stomach and ready to feast. I began with a few classic French bistro fare – one couldn’t go wrong with the beef tartare and lobster bisque, both signature items at the Brasserie on the Eighth over a glass of Perrier Jouet and their special gin cocktails prepared at the bar. Or the Brittany oyster and the pate.

The salmon dish was nice too – served two ways in sliced gravlax slightly cured and in the thicker Balik cut with a firmer texture, and with the condiments served on the side. Of course, it’s always nice to have some Oscietra caviar and salmon roes, served side by side and beautifully presented.

I felt like I was still stuffed from the sheer amount of meat I had a few days back but I had another meat feast this time. I love the fatty bits of the Tomahawk steak, tender, juicy and tasty with the black peppercorn sauce and caponata on the side and the Veal Tournedos with the creamy morel sauce gave me a double whammy of rich meat flavor.

Went back to the Italian side with my choice of dessert of traditional cassata cake with roasted pistachio and candied lemon, and before that, we were introduced to the cheese collection available inside the "Cheese Library" with a few choices from France and Switzerland with a few bottles of whisky to pair with.
