In between two excellent meals at two separate Wynn properties in Macau the kind hotel PR team put us in a suite at Wynn Palace on the Cotai side. We have visited the hotel briefly previously but this is the first time we were staying there.
The location of Wynn Palace being at the far end of the row of mega hotel/casino complexes (right across the street from MGM Cotai and City of Dreams) meant guests must rely on hotel shuttles or car to get there. But then the hotel is pretty much self-contained so if you are looking for a place to stay in and chill, there’s no need to get out. One of the signature features of the hotel complex (similar to other Wynn properties worldwide) is the collection of art pieces placed around the public area – at Wynn Palace, perhaps the most famous one is the Tulips by Jeff Koons, the larger-than-real bouquet of balloon flowers made with stainless steel with colorful metallic coating, which was shown prominently in one of the entrances. I also loved a few giant cloisonné vases placed at the VIP lobby with enamel applied on copper ware giving it an unique royal blue color with the texture reassembling porcelain pieces.
There were 2 major attractions at the hotel – one being the water fountain show on the lake (which we have seen during our dinner at Wing Lei Palace), and the other being the cable car bringing guests from the street into the building with a gorgeous view of the property from above. It was particularly fun to ride when the water fountain show was going on, giving us a totally different viewing angles. I reckon kids would love doing that again and again.
The gold and red color scheme throughout the property might be a bit too tacky to me, but it’s just a personal preference. As we arrived on Friday evening on a late ferry, we checked in and were shown to our suite. It’s spacious and well-equipped, with the view of the swimming pool downstairs and the Cotai strip further back. We have passed the weather for a quick dip in the swimming pool (though I believe it’s temperature-controlled, but I could imagine this being perfect in hotter days just to chill and relax by the pool-side.
In the morning we decided to stay in and ordered breakfast to be delivered by room service. They were sumptuous, and more than what we would expect with almost everything from cereal to egg to pastries plus juices and coffees, all included in the set. Such a great idea just to chill and eat in our bathrobes while enjoying the view from the window.
