Best Things Begin in the Mornings

Breakfast at Four Seasons Hong Kong was the part I most looked forward to before the start of our weekend stay-cation at the hotel. With both The Lounge and Blue Bar offered separate breakfast menus to guests, we decided to go to both on two separate mornings just to check it out.

The Lounge at the far end of the lobby is the hotel's all-day dining outlet, probably more known for their extravagant afternoon tea. The a la carte breakfast menu is available 7 days a week from early morning on, with choices range from the usual Continental with pastries, American with eggs to order, to Japanese or local style set. Ones could also order individual dishes as they please.

We each ordered a different set and I felt like it's more than sumptuous for the two of us. The American set CYY ordered came with a nice pastry basket, fruit salad bowl, two eggs to order, breakfast meats and hash brown. Then for my Hong Kong breakfast, it came with a mini dimsum platter (in the bamboo basket), fried noodles (with scallions and dried ham) and a bowl of congee. Both came with the choice of fresh juices. Well, premium price aside (our hotel package included breakfasts for two so it's not so much an issue for us this time), the food was more than decent and as I said, came with generous portion.

Next day we walked to the other side of the ground floor lobby and checked out the breakfast at Blue Bar. It's always been my favorite breakfast spot in town and it didn't disappoint. We went on a Sunday so presumably there were more customers coming for a long breakfast but the place never felt over-crowded. Unlike The Lounge, here it's based on an all-you-can-eat menu, with the food available at the counters, except the egg dish that's made to order. In terms of variety, it's not the most I have seen in hotels in Asia or even in Hong Kong, but all the dishes were of great quality.

Of course, my favorite part was the pastry stations full of goodies prepared by Chef Ringo's pastry team, especially those sweet mini donuts. I would say the tables were slightly less comfortable since the place was designed more for evening drinks than as a proper sit-down restaurant but I do love the lazy couches for the more relaxed vibe, especially during weekends.

So here's my choice - The Lounge if I look for better ambiance and lighter fare; Blue Bar if I look for sumptuousness and value.
