Korean Brunch

With the latest typhoon just brushed by us, we managed to come to Jinjuu to check out their new Sunday brunch menu as scheduled. I did enjoy having a leisurely stroll up to Lan Kwai Fong during weekend day time, with the street cleared of the crowds, the curb properly cleaned up and most of the places just generally quieter and more comfortable, for someone who just wanna chillax.



Jinjuu sat on the ground level of the street corner at Lan Kwai Fong with the long bar area at the front with the stand-only tall tables and the sit-down dining area further back with windows opening up to the street. I loved the industrial chic interior with touches of Korean-style decorations subtly placed around. And I loved our table right by the window - nothing much to see outside unlike at night-time but with plenty of sunlight and gentle breezes coming through.

Their Sunday brunch is based on prix-fixe menu with appetizers, main and dessert. Appetizers were served tapas-style and we could re-order more if you so choose. My favorite was the chicken skewer with the slow-cooked chicken thigh with a soy glaze and black garlic aioli - combining the super-tender meat with rich flavor from the seasonings. I also liked the beetroot-cured salmon served with deonjang confit mushroom and whole-grain mustard vinaigrette for the good balance of acidity and sweetness.

Not a particular wide range of drinks available as the add-on option for the brunch menu, but I thought the Spiced Kimchi Mary with the extra heat from the kimchi juice was the perfect wake-up drink for a somewhat overcast Sunday morning.

We each picked a main course to share from a list of five different choices. The Korean-fried Baby Chicken was elaborative with half a baby chicken done the popular way and served with two different kinds of glazes from squeeze bottles on the side, with three different kind of condiments. That was the one we both loved. Our other choice was the Korean Ramyun, traditional noodles in soup which change regularly. The one we had was with slices of beef served with half a boiled egg. Not the most interesting dish we tried I must say, but it would be a good choice if you opted for something lighter (especially if you had too many of those yummy appetizers)

Dessert was an icecream/sorbet platter with toppings available at the bar. Not a fan of this being served on a slate plate (making a mess as the icecream began to melt), but the homemade strawberry icecream was great. And I had more than a handful of sweets that I fetched from the candy jars - just love it.
