West Kowloon Picnic

We always wanted to do something different while on staycation, and this time at The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong we headed down for a picnic right by the harborside at the West Kowloon Art Park Sunday morning before we checked out.

Kudos to the hotel team who came up with this brilliant idea, offering their guests this option of ordering the picnic basket and have it delivered right to the park by their staff – they even did the set-up for you (and served you the first drink) if you prefer so all you needed to do was to show up and find the spot at the lawn right at the harborfront within the West Kowloon Art District.

All the goodies were in the fancy rattan basket, including proper plates and cutleries. Our picnic set for two came with more than enough food, including bread and dip, cold cuts, salads, sandwiches, (multiple) desserts, fruits and drinks, all properly packed. Definitely more than sufficient as a proper lunch and they were definitely up to the top hotel standard.

My favorite part was their desserts – with the apple tart and pear tart both well made with two different kinds of pastry base and both equally delicious. If there were one or two things that I think they could improve on, I wish they brought us an ice box so to keep the drinks nice and cool throughout, and would be even better if they came with a tent to give us some shade under the sun – luckily we brought our own this time so we were partially spared from the scorching heat while enjoying a sip of champagne and people (and dog) watching.

Not our first time in the park which offered the most spectacular, unobstructed view of the Victoria Harbor with the Central skyline as backdrop but we still loved the sight no matter how often we see this. We went early in the morning so the crowd was manageable, with some families with their kids or dogs (or both). Love the casual and lively vibes with people getting together in a nice social distance with the slightly cooler breezes.

Don’t want to sound like a commercial, but this is definitely one thing I would recommend for people coming for a weekend stay. Not the usual lunch one would do while staying in a hotel, but this  certainly was one thing that stood out and this is the perfect season for this.
