Safe Choice

Shanghai Fraternity is always a safe choice, especially during COVID times when we could always book out a private room with separate tables to conform with the social distancing rules while still feel like we are eating together.

No Flower Crabs

We went back to The Chairman to eat late last month. Given they have been solidly booked out for the rest of the year, barring a "miracle", this could as well be our last meal there in 2021.

Borgogno Dinner

I couldn’t recall having been to Cipriani before, so I supposed that’s part of the reasons we signed up for the wine dinner at the restaurant the other day featuring wines from the Borgogno Winery right in the heart of Barolo.

Another Neighborhood Feast

Made it back to Neighborhood for the first time this year in late June with a slightly bigger group. Chef David was there, and the restaurant was packed even during the early seating which started when most normal people were in office.

Second in a Month

We went for a second staycation weekend in a month with a stay at The Langham in TST in mid-June. We probably picked one of the worst weekend to go, as it fell into Father's Day, and that meant the hotel and its restaurants were all fully-booked.

A Rare Exception

I am never a fan of Tai Ping Koon, quite possibly one of the oldest local restaurants still standing and serves the so-called “Soy Sauce Western” cuisine, a fusion cooking style of sort mixing old-school service a la russe with a “Chinese characteristic” – how politically appropriate. But I thought I would make this an exception for once to eat there again given the restaurant is right across the street from where we were staying for the night.

Dinner Downstairs

Highlight of our weekend stay at The Eaton was certainly the dinner at Yat Tung Heen, their Michelin-starred restaurant specializing in Cantonese dishes. We always have a good time eating here, and this time was no exception. The only difference was this time around we only needed to hop a few level down from our room to eat.

The Unexpected Stay

Admittedly, The Eaton is not the type of perfect staycation venue in our mind, but it did turn out to be a pleasant surprise. We stayed there a few weekends ago, taking advantage of the special vaccination incentive promotion by the hotel group which owned the property.

Mian Sequel

I returned to Mian just a few weeks after eating there for the first time, and this time with Chef Shao in residence. Our friend KC has sorted out the menu with the chef and we ended up having a few new dishes along with some of the chef’s signature.

Bibi and Baba on a Stormy Night

On a stormy night (a few weeks back) I ate at Bibi and Baba. It’s only my first time eating at this restaurant on Ship Street specializing in Ngonya cuisine and I came just when their new chef was on board.
