The Unexpected Stay
Admittedly, The Eaton is not the type of perfect staycation venue in our mind, but it did turn out to be a pleasant surprise. We stayed there a few weekends ago, taking advantage of the special vaccination incentive promotion by the hotel group which owned the property. The check-in process was one of the best we have experienced, friendly and efficient, and within 10 minutes we were resting in our room. The room was compact, as we have expected, but I thought it’s quite tastefully done, reminding me of one of those contemporary urban hotels we stayed in Taipei (God I miss travelling!). Not much of a view - got a bit of the street of Nathan Road but it’s never too noisy. I never knew the hotel got a swimming pool, and turned out that was beautiful with a funky tropical theme right on the rooftop, sharing the floor with a gym and yoga studio. The COVID restriction of only 6 guests allowed at the pool area was a blessing in disguise as that meant we could avoid the crowd. The bar (called Terrible Baby) was another surprise, with half the space in the outdoor terrace, and half air-conditioned, so we got both side of the world. The place seems to be popular from early afternoon on, with a nice selection of cocktails and shisha. At night they also have live music – would definitely return to check that out in the future. Our heavily discounted room rate didn’t include breakfasts, but we could add those on at half price. Even at full price I would say it’s an amazing deal with excellent quality. It’s served buffet style at their restaurant in the basement, with huge selections of hot and cold dishes. I especially enjoyed the selection of many local items including egg waffles, pineapple buns, steamed rice flour rolls and local hot milk tea.
