Nothing out of the ordinary really, but the food was on par with what was expected. I especially enjoyed the Baja style soft fish tacos with a piece of sole that's battered and deep-fried, slaw and a creamy and slightly tangy Baja dressing on the side.
At least with the hotel right in the heart of TST there's no lack of choices in terms of places to eat. For lunch we hopped by our favorite Taiwanese joint just across the street and enjoyed a hearty bowl of beef noodles plus more signature snacks. Even if we couldn't fly out of Hong Kong these days we got a feel of what it was like out of town. Breakfast next morning was served at the buffet restaurant upstairs. The place was much smaller than I thought, with a limited offering of dishes. The food was okay, but there were long lines everywhere which did take away some of the pleasure of spending a leisure Sunday morning, which is what a staycation was for. Same with the swimming pool - even with the booking system in place which limited number of people at any given time, it's like a zoo in there even during wee hours. Probably our fault of picking one of their busiest weekends - oh well. At least I gotta to spend the night watching football on TV with their Euro 2020 subscription, plus the weather has been gorgeous during our stay.Saturday, July 17, 2021
Second in a Month
We went for a second staycation weekend in a month with a stay at The Langham in TST in mid-June. We probably picked one of the worst weekend to go, as it fell into Father's Day, and that meant the hotel and its restaurants were all fully-booked.At least it didn't take long for us to be given the key and checked in. Didn't have much expectation for a hotel of this age, but it was surprisingly pleasant and looked more spacious than on paper. It even came with a well-equipped bathroom with full-sized tub. Not bad for a regular Run-of-the-house room. My only complaint was the view, or lack thereof - I felt we were within touching distance of the office building right next door. With everywhere inside the hotel was fully booked up by the time we checked, we only managed an early dinner reservation at The Bostonian in the basement. Our first choice would have been their more casual Main Street Deli upstairs, but since it's under renovation they served the same menu at The Bostonian, so we ended up with a mix of dishes from both restaurants.
