Hearty Mecanese Dinner

With 9 people in our group (7 adults plus 2 kids), I figure it’s easier to go for somewhere casual for dinner in Macau – not that I wasn’t tempted of going for another fine-dining option at our hotel after a great dimsum lunch under the same roof. This time I seek advice from my friend, the one-time-Macau-resident J for recommendation and her blog pointed me to this Portuguese/Macanese restaurant called Restaurante Carlos in Macau Peninsula not far from where we were staying.

Chef Vs (Paella) Pan

I did say it would be a long while before I will even consider doing the “chef gig” thing again since my “debut” at PMQ Taste Kitchen a few months ago. But when Chef Alex Fargas and his team approached me to be the guest chef for the weekend brunch menu at his restaurant La Paloma, it seems like a project having too much fun to say no to. The restaurant in Sai Ying Pun, with the promise of serving “Sexy Tapas”, has been doing this “Chef Vs Pan” series for a while, in which once a month one outside chef would come in to deliver his/her version of paella (using the giant 40-inch pan) and roast suckling pig as part of their weekend brunch menu.

That Killer Suckling Pig

It’s been a long while since we got together as a group and glad we did that late last month over dinner at The Celestial Court at the Sheraton. I have visited the restaurant a few times before and the place didn’t change much from what I remembered, except Chef Jack Chan who came on board late last year. And it’s crowded as always on the Friday evening we were there, just before the Father’s Day weekend which understandably is one of the busier weekend of any Chinese restaurant around town.

More Sunday Brunch

Seems like we have been going around checking out various Sunday brunch offerings in town lately (though it wasn’t our intention per se), but last weekend we did it again, this time at Potato Head in Sai Ying Pun. I have been back a few times already since they opened in the middle of last year, either for the proper sit-down meals at the trendy Kaum restaurant or just for a quick coffee and pastry at the café corner near the entrance.
